English Language and American Culture
This course provides instruction in English as a second language with an emphasis on conversation rather than writing. The class also addresses the need for a better understanding of American culture. If there is sufficient enrollment, two sections will be offered. (Classroom materials are provided.) Learning Objectives:
Develop and enhance students' vocabulary through conversation Aid understanding of form, meaning, an usage of target structures in oral and written form Use students' own life experiences to stimulate the free expression of ideas in discussions Improve reading ability so as to become independent readers in English Enhance knowledge of American culture
Course Outline:
Each lesson (per text) is divided between: Vocabulary - Grammar rule Function of language Reading comprehension Listening comprehension Short answer (written)
