This course emphasizes improving conversational skills, both listening and speaking. It is a continuation of Italian I for students who have the basic level language skills. 16 hours (Textbook required)

Italian Verb Drills by Paola Nanni-Tate, 2nd edition (ISBN-13: 978-0-0-7142089-1)

Optional:Italian-English/English-Italian dictionary; Irregular Italian verbs conjugated in all tenses.

Learning Objectives:

Week 1:
Review of the material covered in the first course
Review of the present tense of the three
conjugations Vocabulary and pronunciation

Week 2:
The simple and compounded prepositions
Di Sopra - Di Sotto
Conversation

Week 3:
Possessive adjectives
Vocabulary, the post office
Passato Prossimo with avere
Review and conversation

Week 4:
Adjectives, opposites
Passato Prossimo with essere
Conversation Review

Week 5:
Practice of passato prossimo with essere and avere
Write and deliver orally a small speech using the passato prossimo
Il telefono and how to make phone calls to and from Italy
Conversation/review

Week 6:
The imperative tense
Conversation Review

Week 7:
The Metro' where and how to buy tickets
Questions and answers in Italian
Conversation using the material learned
Review

Week 8:
The future tense of all the three conjugations
Review of the material covered in the 8 weeks
Conversation

Teaching/Learning Methods:

Lecture, small group discussion, videos, questions

Assignments:

Learn vocabulary, study verbs from verb book, write letters and paragraphs in Italian.
