Conversational Spanish I is designed for adults who have little or no previous instruction in Spanish. Emphasis will be on the spoken language and developing conversational fluency. 16 hours (Textbook required)

Learning Objectives:
  • Develop familiarity with the Spanish language through the use of cognates
  • Learn vocabulary and the formation of sentences and questions
  • Synthesize vocabulary and grammar for real-life situations in business and travel
  • Develop oral/written skills
  • Learn aspects of Hispanic culture
Course Outline:

Week 1:        
Introduction: greetings, alphabet, pronunciation, vocabulary (pag. xi-xix)

Week 2:
Vocabulary (pag. xx-xxvi). Unit one (pag. 3-11): Nouns and articles.

Week 3:       
Review of unit one. Unit two: nouns and articles (pag. 13-19).

Week 4:        
Unit three: present indicative tense: regular AR conjugation (pag. 21-29).

Week 5:
Unit four: present indicative tense: regular ER and IR conjugations (pag. 31-39).

Week 6:
Unit five and six: Interrogative words and indefinite articles. Culture unit 1 (41-59).

Week 7:
Unit seven, eight and nine: cardinal numbers, time, days, months, dates seasons. Irregular verbs. Prepositions a and de (pag. 69-100).

Week 8:
Unit ten, eleven and twelve: Verb to be: Ser and Estar (pag. 103-135).
