This should be your next Spanish class if you want to continue to develop the communication skills you learned in Conversational Spanish I, or if you already have some background in Spanish. This course concentrates on building additional conversational skills and vocabulary. 16 hours (Textbook required)

Learning Objectives:

Students will continue their growth in the fundamentals of communication in the Spanish language in areas including:

  • conjugation of common verbs into the present and past tenses
  • building of vocabulary in common scenarios
  • improvement of pronunciation
Course Outline:

Week 1: REVIEW (Work Units 1 - 6)
Alphabet and pronuciation
Articles: el and la (the), un and una (a/an), and unos and unas (some/a few)
Verbs: conjugation of regular -ar, -er, and -ir verbs into the present; ser vs. estar
Adjectives and Adverbs: masculine and feminine forms; bien/bueno and mal/malo

Week 2: Work Units 7 and 8
Counting: small cardinal numbers
Time, days, months, dates, and seasons
Common irregular verbs

Week 3: Work Unit 9
The preposition a (and its many uses)

Week 4: Work Unit 10
The preposition de (and its many uses)

Week 5: Work Units 11 and 12
Ser vs. Estar

Week 6: Work Units 13 and 14
Comparisons: adjectives and equality
Counting: large cardinal numbers

Week 7: Work Unit 15
Counting: ordinal numbers
Comparisons: adjectives and inequality

Week 8: Work Unit 16
Commands: formal commands (Ud., Uds., and nosotros)

Teaching/Learning Methods:

As this is a conversation course, we will spend a majority of our time working with the spoken language as opposed to the written.  Many opportunities will be given in class to improve your spoken Spanish skills: Please take advantage of them! Our goal is growth in comprehension of, production of, and confidence in your spoken Spanish skills. 

Assignments:

Homework will be given for each week and will only work to improve your skills.
